How to use our
Multipurpose Cleaners

For cars and truck cabs, 1 to 2 ounces per gallon of water makes an excellent shampoo that rinses streak and spot free.

For cleaning trailers, where road film, insects, salt cinders and diesel smoke are a problem, use 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 30 parts water and agitate with a soft bristle brush until soil is loose. Rinse with clear, high pressure water.

For cleaning engines, use 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 5 parts water, let stand for 20 minutes and then rinse with high pressure water.

For cleaning truck wheels, extremely dirty engines, and undercarriage, mix 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 1 part water and 6 parts Stoddard solvent. Spray on and let stand for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse with clear, high pressure water.

For cleaning tire white walls, use 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 5 parts water, then agitate with a stiff bristle brush.

For cleaning radiators, add 1 cup of Safe-N-Clean to water in the radiator, let circulate for a week, then change water.

Because of its amazing wetting ability, Safe-N-Clean is useful in areas where grading, access roads and construction areas create dust problems. Safe-N-Clean can be very effective in helping to control dust by reducing water consumption, watering equipment, and labor.

Add 5 gallons of Safe-N-Clean to 3,000 gallons of water in watering trucks or sprinkling system. Spray dust control areas as necessary to keep area damp and dust down. The hyper-wetting agents in Safe-N- Clean will cause the water to penetrate thoroughly, while the colloids attract the dust particles holding them together to form loam. Six to ten continuous applications on an area will give a good base depending on soil and dust conditions. Once a base is established, the ratio can be reduced to 1 gallon Safe-N-Clean to 3,000 gallons water. The frequency of application will be reduced and the total water volume will be decreased from one half to two thirds the quantity needed without Safe-N-Clean.

The combined action of colloids and wetting agents suggests the use of Safe-N-Clean in areas where dust particles in the air create a potentially explosive environment. In this case, use at a concentration of 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 100 parts water and atomize into the air.

Safe-N-Clean can be used in the fire restoration process in order to remove silt and soot from walls, wood and other surfaces affected by fire, an important part of the process in restoring the appearance of fire ravaged buildings. Our product will loosen, emulsify and suspend greasy soils and can be used on all surfaces as long as plain tap water is not a problem. Safe-N-Clean will remove smoke residues, grease and other difficult soils all while being non-flammable, non-corrosive and with no intoxicating fumes.

As a manufacturing floor cleaner, use 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 15 parts water and apply to your floor by any convenient means. Then let stand for 15 minutes. Where oils and greases have heavy crusts, agitate with a stiff bristle broom. Check a small spot to be sure that all dirt, grease, oils, etc. have been picked up by the solution, then rinse, mop or squeegee clean. Although colloids are not considered bactericides, they can inhibit the growth of certain types of enzymes by removing trace metals essential to their nutrition and enzymatic reactions.

If extremely dirty, use 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 5 parts water the first time and thereafter 1 to 20, depending on how often your floor is cleaned and what type of floor it is. Safe-N-Clean will not affect acrylic type waxes.

When used correctly, Safe-N-Clean does a superb job of cleaning rugs and carpets. In carpet machines, use 80 to 100 parts water for each part of Safe-N-Clean . On spots or stains, sponge on at a concentration of 20 parts water to 1 part Safe-N-Clean and agitate with soft bristle brush if necessary. Then wipe off with towel.

For this description the concentration of Safe-N-Clean may be varied to fit the job; anywhere from a concentrated form a dilution of 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 100 parts water. To determine the best mixture for a particular job, start with a mild solution and gradually increase it until the desired results are obtained. It is important to note that time and energy can be saved by allowing Safe-N-Clean to do most of the work. As such, on difficult areas we suggest that they cleaner be given time to penetrate and break loose the dirt, greases, oils and other soils from the surface before you attempt to wipe or rinse clean.

Below is a partial list of common items that can be cleaned and sanitized with Safe-N-Clean: air conditioners, appliances, ash trays, BBQ grills, cabinets, ceramics, chrome, copper, desks, chairs, driveways, exhaust grills, exteriors, filters, fireplaces & screens, jewelry, lamp shades, lanolin, lawn furniture, lawn mowers, linoleum, marble, naugahyde, office equipment, ovens, paint brushes, plastic cookware, records, refrigerators, shoes, silver, stainless steel, suede, vending machines, venetian blinds, and vinyl.

Oil field equipment, engine blocks, heavy equipment, floors, or any other surface where extra-heavy grease deposits occur, mix 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 1 part water. Adding kerosene, solvent or diesel fuel will make an emulsion that becomes thicker with repeated stirring. This thickness serves a very important function in that it causes Safe-N-Clean to cling to a vertical surface long enough to get the job done. Once the solution becomes smooth in consistency, apply Safe-N-Clean by spray method. The Hudson type sprayer is ideal for this purpose. Safe-N-Clean in a solvent emulsion usually works in about 20 to 30 minutes. When grease starts to slide, rinse off with high pressure water. For light to medium-heavy degreasing, mix 1 part Safe-N-Clean with 5 parts water and use in the same way.

A unique quality of Safe-N-Clean is that, when left on a surface, it will not completely evaporate. Leave Safe-N-Clean on the surface overnight and wash it down with high pressure water the next day. The results will be the same as if you had finished the job in sequence. If all Safe-N-Clean is thoroughly rinsed off with water, then the metal is left exposed and thus subject to rusting and corrosion. To inhibit this occurrence, a light oil film or a solution of no more then 5 parts water to 1 part Safe-N-Clean may be applied to the surface and left to dry.

Safe-N-Clean is also very effective in the cleaning of electrical equipment and components. Safe-N-Clean will remove the various metal oxides and inhibit re-corrosion, yet it will not result in any dimensional changes. It can be used to clean many electrical appliances and equipment and is very effective for use on the overhaul and repair of water meters, parking meters, copying machines, adding machines, calculators, typewriters, cash registers, computers, and more. For this type of application, a rule of thumb would be a dilution ration of 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 10 parts water. Since Safe-N-Clean is a water based cleaning compound and therefore non-dielectric, it should be used to clean electrical equipment only when the equipment has been disconnected. Make certain that equipment is completely dry before reinstallation. Safe-N-Clean is very effective in ultrasonic cleaners. Best dilution ratios generally range near 150 parts water for 1 part Safe-N-Clean.

The use of Safe-N-Clean as a laundry compound will vary depending upon the type of operation.

For industrial laundries, where heavy oils, dirt, inks, etc. are removed, use 4 to 8 ounces per 50 lb load.

For home laundry, or where light soils are encountered, use 1 ounce of Safe-N-Clean for every 4 gallons of water.

For spot removal, use Safe-N-Clean straight from the bottle. Apply to the spot and rub back and forth between fingers to be sure Safe-N-Clean has completely penetrated the fabric, then launder as usual.

In some instances, Safe-N-Clean has removed old stains that have been laundered and pressed, the removal of which is extremely difficult. Safe-N-Clean may be used as an additive to regular laundry compound by the addition of 1 oz per load of clothing. After washing with Safe-N-Clean or using it as an additive to regular compounds, colors look brighter, whites look whiter, and fabric is soft and fluffy and smells genuinely clean.

Safe-N-Clean can be used as an excellent lubricant on high speed conveyor systems or any system where a good non-pressure lubricant is required. In addition to serving in this way, it also substantially facilitates the cleaning of your system. This can be done simply by washing down an application of Safe-N-Clean with a garden hose, where it would be necessary to go through a whole cleaning procedure if an oil were used. Safe-N-Clean can be used in its concentrated form or diluted with small amounts of water.

For use as a coolant or lubricant in tapping, use 1 part Safe-N-Clean to approximately 5 parts water for optimum effectiveness.

For a lubricant for boring precision holes in aluminum castings, add Safe-N-Clean to the cutting fluid in order to obtain cleaner, smoother and finer finished holes. Safe-N-Clean has worked very well as a drawing compound on brass and steel.

In varying concentrations, Safe-N-Clean can handle many other lubrication roles as well. Safe-N-Clean may be used as a lubricant to increase the life and efficiency of metal-cutting saws. Safe-N-Clean may be used as a lubricant to increase the life and efficiency of metal cutting saws. For example, when used as a lubricant in cutting titanium and cold rolled steel, the “splash action” alone will result in a self-cleaning saw blade with the added advantage of elimination of rust formations. Cleaner cuts will be obtained and saw teeth will remain chip-free, without the loading effect. Research has shown that because of bacteria growth in cutting fluids, corrosion begins on parts while being formed on the machines. Bacteria reduces the life span of cutting tools by as much as 40%.

Since Safe-N-Clean is bacteriostatic in nature, it greatly reduces the occurrence of bacteria, solving many associated problems. As a cleaner for sumps, use 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 8 to 10 parts water and circulate for 30 minutes. The same solution may be used for washing down the exterior of the machine while the sump is cleaning. This mixture will destroy existing bacteria, and because of its colloidal action will remove metal filings that clog pressure lines and pumps. When the operation is complete, drain the sump and rinse to remove metal filings.

Safe-N-Clean finds a variety of uses in machine shops. As a coolant, 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 1 part water- soluble oil added separately to 20 parts water in the sump will eliminate oil curd and congealing. Safe-N- Clean acts as a coolant and keeps the water-soluble oil so evenly dispersed that results are immediately apparent. Additionally, Safe-N-Clean can almost eliminate costly cleaning operations. Because of its built- in cleaning action, it keeps the sumps and pressure lines clean, thus reducing maintenance costs. A mixture of 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 10 parts water is an effective coolant for threading stainless steel pipe. This will normally eliminate overheating and prevent dyes from wearing out or burning up quickly.

Safe-N-Clean finds large use the cleaning of plastics because it is completely safe on plastic surfaces, has great risibility, and contains no petroleum solvents or detergents. Detergents in plastic cleaners can cause a process of deterioration that may not be immediately apparent. Repeated use of detergents will cause surface areas to become brittle, showing hairline cracks that are usually thought to be weather or age cracks. Solvents in plastic cleaners can cause crazing of stressed plastics, reducing and distorting visibility to such a degree that the entire distorted area becomes useless and must be replaced. Safe-N-Clean will not take the plasticizers out of plastics or otherwise harm them in any way. Mix 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 20 parts water, or go with a heavier concentration in extreme cases.

In soak or hand washing operations Safe-N-Clean is also an excellent cleaner for the removal of mill and processing oil. Safe-N-Clean may also be used in spray wash systems as is, where foam is no problem. In soak or hand operations, use Safe-N-Clean at an approximate concentration of 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 30

parts water. The ratio can be changed to fit different conditions. In spray operations, start at a concentration of 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 20 parts water.

Safe-N-Clean finds a variety of uses in the Hotel and Restaurant industry in food service facilities and for general housekeeping. In kitchens, Safe-N-Clean may be used for soaking utensils or flatware before washing, resulting in a renewed shine and brilliance. Two ounces of Safe-N-Clean for each gallon of water produces excellent results. Roughly the same dilution may be used for soaking burned pots and pans.

Safe-N-Clean is very effective in cleaning the exteriors and interiors of walk-in and reach-in reefers, with the additional benefit of inhibiting, and in most cases eliminating the formation of mildew. A dilution ratio of 20 parts water to 1 part Safe-N-Clean should be used in this instance for cleaning and wiping down all stainless steel appliances and surfaces. Steam tables, stock pots, and coffee makers can be effectively cleaned at this dilution ratio, with no resulting scale in the steam tables and with no remaining residue in coffee makers and other equipment. Kitchen greases are effectively broken up by Safe-N-Clean at a dilution ratio of 10 to 20 parts water to 1 part Safe-N-Clean It easily cleans these greases, dirt and other soils from metal, plastic, tile, Formica, wood, rubber, fabric painted and other surfaces with no adverse effects. To clean ovens and fryers, heat the unit to a temperature of 140 degrees and apply Safe-N-Clean at a dilution ratio of 1 to 1 with water. If possible, let stand overnight and rinse down the following day when convenient, using a stiff bristle brush if necessary.

Safe-N-Clean is excellent for cleaning vents and hoods over kitchen ovens and ranges. Since it is completely non-flammable, the danger of grease fires resulting from inadequately cleaned vents, etc. is greatly reduced. In oven hoods having built in “detergent” or cleaning compound applicators, such as the Garlord hoods, Safe-N-Clean is exceptionally effective and should be used 1 to 1 with water. In such applications, Safe-N-Clean not only does a superior job of cleaning but will additionally reduce kitchen odors, reduce a potential fire hazard, and prevent the clogging and scaling of tubes, valves, and pumps within the hood itself. Safe-N-Clean has proven useful in relieving grease clogged sewers and drains in numerous instances. Since conditions vary from one situation to another, results will likewise vary. It is recommended that light ratios of Safe-N-Clean to water are used initially, gradually increasing the ratio until satisfactory results are obtained or until it becomes obvious that professional assistance is required.

As a general purpose kitchen cleaning agent, Safe-N-Clean is ideal. In addition to the aforementioned applications, it will effectively clean storeroom areas, food preparation and dispensing equipment, counter areas, dishwashers, sinks, cupboards, and restrooms. Safe-N-Clean makes an excellent hand cleaner at one to one with water (use concentrated if extremely dirty).

Safe-N-Clean does a fantastic job of inhibiting rust and corrosion of metal surfaces. Safe-N-Clean will remove tarnish and corrosion from copper, brass and silver and remove light rust from iron and steel when used in a soak tank operation at a concentration of 1 part Safe-N-Clean to 5 parts water. Dwell time will depend entirely upon the degree of the contamination.

As a wall cleaner, Safe-N-Clean does an exceptional job on virtually any surface. It is safe on paint and will not take the plasticizers out of acrylic type wall covering and wallpapers. For cleaning walls, it is recommended that the washing be done from the bottom up and the rinsing from the top down.

This will eliminate any potential streaking problems that otherwise occur on certain surfaces or on heavily soiled areas. For walls, one part Safe-N-Clean to 20 parts water is a good rule of thumb. Rinse with water or wipe off, whichever is appropriate. As a wood cleaner, Safe-N-Clean is also safe. It can be used on all woods, whether new or old, common or exotic.

Without any adverse effects such as spotting, streaking or raising of the grain, it can also be used in bowling alleys or on bowling pins, doors, desks, tables, chairs, cabinets, railings, and steps in the same dilution as for walls.

Mix Safe-N-Clean 1 part to 25 parts water and spray or brush on with a soft bristle brush. Agitate slightly with brush until dirt and soils begin to run. Rinse with high pressure, clean water. On exhaust tracks and rocket blast areas, use Safe-N-Clean at full strength. It is safe on all metals and is non-drying, so the soak or dwell time may be extended overnight if the job is heavy enough to require it. After Safe-N-Clean has completely penetrated the residue, agitate to break loose any hard carbon deposits. Once the carbon deposits and blast residue is suspended in solution, they will not redeposit even if the area is allowed to dry completely before rinsing. When the area is again wet down, it will reactivate the colloidal action of Safe-N-Clean , and rinsing will be spot free.

Experience with steam cleaning machines located in areas where water hardness runs as high as 50 grains suggests the use of Safe-N-Clean in water treatment for boilers. Machines that are descaled regularly at three week intervals can be in operation for more than 18 months with little or no scale buildup.
